I think Randy Pausch was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams because he was tenacious. His parents encouraged him to believe that anything was possible and didn't discourage his imagination, even when it became messy. As children, we tend to romanticize life and dream the biggest dreams humanly possible. As we get older and those dreams seem so much more out of reach, we are suddenly faced with "real life decisions". Our dreams are no longer realistic because they are hard to achieve. That's why they are called dreams. But dreams are important because they keep us from conforming, be boring and leading meaningless lives. They allow us to push against the brick wall that Randy Pausch talked about. He said that brick walls are there to stop those who don't want it badly enough.
