I think Randy Pausch was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams because he was tenacious. His parents encouraged him to believe that anything was possible and didn't discourage his imagination, even when it became messy. As children, we tend to romanticize life and dream the biggest dreams humanly possible. As we get older and those dreams seem so much more out of reach, we are suddenly faced with "real life decisions". Our dreams are no longer realistic because they are hard to achieve. That's why they are called dreams. But dreams are important because they keep us from conforming, be boring and leading meaningless lives. They allow us to push against the brick wall that Randy Pausch talked about. He said that brick walls are there to stop those who don't want it badly enough. It will stop the ones who won't continue to find a way through it, over it or under it. As long as we don't allow ourselves to believe that dreams can't become realities, what is stopping us from trying to achieve everything we want to accomplish? If you can persevere through all of the things, people and beliefs that are stopping you, you can do anything you are going to work hard for.

One of my childhood dreams was to become an actress. But the thing is, I have gone back and forth to my brick wall, trying to tear it down just to build it back up. Dreaming is easy. Taking that first step towards those dreams and promising that you will be and stay tenacious is terrifying. Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart. I can't tell you whether or not I have given up on this dream. I tell myself it's not realistic or that the odds aren't in my favor. Then again, you can't achieve what you are not willing to try. I don't know if acting is no longer my dream, or if I am just not brave and tenacious enough to pursue it.
