Blog Entry 10/02/21
This week, one of the most memorable things I learned had to do with creating and committing to a personal code of ethics. Honesty was the first commitment on my list because, in business, I feel that it is rarer and rarer these days. "Integrity will ultimately make or break you." That's why it was important to create my own list of what I will do and what I will never do. I said that I will never be dishonest in dealings with my fellow man, let others take advantage of me, or prioritize things that aren't important. I said that I will always put my best effort into myself and my entrepreneurial journey, serve others, and listen to others' feedback and improve from it. I think it is important to set this code of personal ethics before I begin my journey because commitments are harder to break after you have actually made them. I was also impressed with Elder Lynn G. Robbin's breakdown grade levels of our fellowmen. After I read through them all, I made a commitment to always be at the "A" level. That means that my primary motivation will be to love my God and my fellowmen and my secondary motivation will be income. Another impactful statement he made was that our careers are not as important as the lives we live for our Father. There were three things, in particular, he mentioned: (1) building his kingdom with strong and valiant families, (2) filling your life with good works that have an impact on your community as well as the world, (3) being honest with others and using your talents to benefit them. These ideals helped shape my ultimate code of conduct because my journey, aside from being an entrepreneur, is living a life that I can be proud of. It is living a life that my Heavenly Father would be proud of.
